HAKA

Many many moons ago there was a brave chief called Te Rauparaha that guarded a place called Ngati Iwi. Te Rauparaha had a lot of enemies that would hunt him down and kill him. Because there were enemies hunting Te Rauparaha he thought that he must do something about it, so he went on a long journey to find more warriors to help Te Rauparaha.

On Te Rauparaha’s journey he finally found a place where other chief’s were happy to help, that place was called Lake Rotoaira. When another chief called Te Wharerangi told Te Rauparaha that he can stay and that his tribe can be his protection if the enemies find him. Later in the day Te Wharerangi alerted Te Rauparaha and said that the enemies are coming so Te Rauparaha thought that in a potato pit is not where the enemies would find a chief because it is not tapu at all. As Te Rauparaha hid in the dark pit he asked a strong wahine to guard the entrance, her name was Te Rangikoaea. Te Rangikoaea listened out for the enemy's chants in case they were near. As Te Rauparaha was in the pit he whispered to himself saying “Will I die, will I die, Will I live,  I will live, and will I ever see the sun shining again.” While Te Rauparaha was saying that, he could hear footsteps coming closer and closer to him. Soon when Te Rauparaha could hear the footsteps going more quiet he jumped out and said “I live, I live and I can see the sun shining again!”

That's when Te Rauparaha went back to his home and told everyone about his story and he told them what he was saying to himself in the potato pit. Te Rauparaha told his story to his kids and his friends and they made it into a strong haka of Aotearoa and they passed it onto their kids who passed it onto their kids who passed it onto their kids and that went on and on until it reached you. This is how the haka ended, WHITI TE RA!!

Narrative Writing

WALT: Add descriptive features to my Narrative

Once upon a time in the sunny tropical islands of Fiji there lived a cheetah called Bella. They say that Bella is the most fierce cheetah they have ever seen in their lives. As people came to see Bella, Bella noticed that one of them looked like the person that checks her health but then when he came closer and then patted her, she felt like he should live with her. The man had a really funny looking hat and a colourful lab coat. He had a lot of gadgets and all sorts of different things like straws, metal things, hooks and even food all on one hat. The funny man was called Peter. Peter felt the same way that Bella thought so he thought that he should take her home and so he did. They lived together for years and then Peter noticed that Bella had a pup over the time that Peter had stayed with her. Bella adored her pup but after a while Peter noticed that her pup was not growing fast and that it was a kitten. Oh oh!!

The Kitten Catastrophe

The kitten was the most trouble that Peter had ever experienced. The most annoying part was when Peter would try to go to work by himself but instead there was a kitten holding onto him the whole time instead of working. The only time Peter could have a rest was when Bella and her kitten were having a nap. Bella was getting bigger and bigger and harder to take care of by himself and the kitten started to get extra annoying from trying to climb on the curtains, always meowing for attention and eating all of the food in the rubbish bin. Bella was getting way too big to be living in Peter's house so Peter kicked Bella out of the house to see if it was any better then before and it turned out to be a lot worse because the kitten did not sleep at all. The kitten ended up being like her mother, all grouchy, mean, fierce, and really looking forward to catching prey even if she knew that she was not going to find any prey that day. As Bella grew the kitten grew and that was the moment when Peter thought of a great idea and he went off to find the old time traveller that he made years and years ago.

The Time Traveller

Every night and every day Peter would be looking for his time traveller. First Peter tested it on a toy that he didn’t like then He put Bella into the time traveller and then set it to 6 years ago. Then off Bella went! Do you think Bella will ever come back?

T3 Asttle Writing

This is my Asttle writing that I did in 50 Minutes.

22 September 2021

WALT:  Express myself in Narrative Writing

Once upon a time deep into the dark woods there was a Teenager with curly brown hair, she had a silky dark purple dress that went down to her ankles and a little purple hair clip made out of the same fabric as the purple dress. That teenager’s name is Jamica. Every time Jamica skipped through the woods she would go past a tiny squirrel in an oak tree. The squirrel’s name is Allison and he has two white stripes going down his back with a puffy but very soft reddish brown tail that feels as soft as your best blanket and I can’t forget to mention Allison’s dark blue eyes. It’s almost like Allison can see things from a mile away! One day when Jamica skipped through the woods she heard a noise and she followed it until she came face to face with a giant dark brown bear with the richest brown eyes and the most jaggedy, sharp teeth Jamica had ever seen in her life.

Jamica and the bear

As soon as Jamica came face to face with the bear she screamed as loud as she could and Allison could see her face to face with the bear. Allison didn’t notice who it was with the bear so Allison kept lying down and looking at magazines. Jamica ran as fast as she could to her house and on the way there she got lost in the middle of the wood’s where no one could hear her shouting out “Someone please come and help me get back home!” Allison heard her that time and thought “Are they calling out for help from me?” So Allison ran as fast as a cheetah and when he could hear someone sobbing he looked that way and found out who it was then started running even faster then he ever had in his life. Allison came to a stop as soon as he saw Jamica and asked her “Why are you crying Jamica?” Jamica explained to Allison that she came face to face with a big growly bear and that she got so scared that she ran as fast as she could away from the bear and then she got lost in the middle of the woods. Allison yelled out “Look at what you did to this poor girl you should apologise.” The bear realised that scaring people was not funny so he walked droopily and sadly to Jamica and apologised to her for scaring her. Jamica thought about what the bear had told her and she told him back that she accepts that apology and that they can be friend’s so the bear’s not lonely.

The Happy Ending

Jamica and the bear lived happily as a family and moved Jamica's house closer so they could have breakfast, lunch and dinner all together. Bear would always do anything with or for Jamica, especially when bear’s favourite thing to do is catch fish in the stream nearby the wood’s. Jamica decided to do something, something to repay Bear for being so nice to Jamica so she named Bear Oliver. Oliver was very proud of himself and Jamica. Do you think Jamica would go deep into the woods again?

Spelling W9/T3

This is something that my whole class does every school day every week, we call it our spelling. Every Friday we would have a spelling test to see if any of us has improved on our spelling.

Week 8 Writing

14 September 2021

WALT:  Follow the sequence of Narrative writing

The Cow And The Turkey

Once upon a time there was a cow living a normal life like every other cow, until she met the craziest bird she could ever meet, his name was Gavin. Gavin had a horrible looking face, half white, half brown, looking like someone had spilled coffee all over Gavin’s head. Although Gavin looked reasonably ugly he was nice, loving, and friendly. He’d try to help anyone, especially the cow Lanna. Lanna is the cow I was talking about before, the one that met Gavin. Lanna is double crazy since she has met Gavin. Lanna is a black cow with splotches of white all over her but mostly on Lanna’s face and neck. When Lanna was a calf she met an old man called Allison. Allison has always worn an old raggedy waterproof jumpsuit. After a while Lanna had to move to a different paddock. Lanna is freaked out that other cow’s just poop at random places.

Problem 1

Lanna was raised by Allison and fed by Allison, Allison did everything for Lanna. Lanna had never ever moved out of the paddock she got raised in until today when she got moved out of her paddock. Lanna was happy because she was still on the same farm and she was with her buddies that she had grown up with, but above all of that there was a slight problem with Lanna moving paddocks. Lanna did not like it because her normal paddock had a bigger paddock and Lanna felt like she was stuck in a tiny space where no one could see her. Lanna felt invisible and not noticed. Lanna would wail everyday and everyday no one would come except one day Gavin heard Lanna wailing and calling out “Someone please come and help me go back to my home, where I belong!” Then all of a sudden Gavin came along and questioned Lanna “Was that you wailing and screaming out  someone please come and help me go back to my home, where I belong.” Lanna replied while sobbing quietly “Yes that was me because this paddock is just too different from the one I belong in.”

Solution 1

Gavin thought of the best idea he had ever thought of, his idea was to try to fly and pick up Lanna and then fly Lanna over to her paddock. All in one breath Gavin called out “I should have flying lessons, then I’d be able to pick you up and  fly you over to your old paddock, where you belong.” Lanna had a think about what Gavin had said to her and then Lanna eventually told Gavin that “It’s a good idea.” Lanna got some baby bamboo that was by her paddock and used them as the lights that help planes go the right way. Gavin cleared all of the other cows to make a runway for Gavin. As soon as Gavin finished his flying lesson's, off they were. That is why you can see a cow jump over the moon.

WALT describe how I’m feeling

Level 2 - Back to school

Getting Out Of Bed

This morning I woke up with a beam of morning light coming at my bed as I slowly got up moaning and groaning until I remembered that it was the day I could finally go back to school. YAY!! I woke up feeling like I had a lot of energy to do my morning jobs, but it turned out that I was not very energetic that morning. I jumped out of bed so excited, then I got dressed as slow as a tortoise in a race with a cheetah.

Going To School

As soon as I threw my bag over my shoulder, I raced out the door, slipped my shoes on and ran to the car yelling “I’m finally at school again!!” Once my mum dropped me off at school I trotted slowly past all the classes and happily said “Good morning.” to Mrs Windelborn and Whaea Kim, then I saw Mihi and Skyla playing and talking in the gazebo. As soon as I had a look at who they were I ran to them with my arm’s wide open ready to hug them and I screamed out “I missed you so much!” Mihi did that too and then when we came close Mihi stuck out her elbow instead of the hug. I got really confused when Mihi put her elbow out so I had a little pause and then I found out that Mihi was elbowing me because covid is around and no one can hug their friends, which seems like nothing has changed but when you experience it, it feels like it’s the end of the world not being able to give your friends a big fat hug. After saying “Hi!” and “I missed you guys so much!!” Mihi, Skyla and I thought of playing busted with the grass being the safe place. I would say that I am not a professional at that game but I think I did good.

My Day At School

After saying “Hi.” to everyone I walked past, I all of a sudden heard the bell ring for learning to begin. When I walked into the classroom my teacher, Mrs Jujnovich greeted every child one by one to check how many people were here at school today. After Mrs Jujnovich greeted everyone, my class listened to what Sir had to say through the intercom. Sir told us what school value we will be looking at this week, he told us the top ten students of mathletics, he was telling us that we have to bring our own drink bottle and the last thing he said was “We are proud and passionate leaders of learning in the heart of the community, Ina te tukaha te tu maia o nga kaiarataki matauranga kei waenganui kei te manawa o te iwi kainga.” After Sir had said what he had to say Nico did the Karakia and then Mihi said the Mihi to start the morning off. After the Karakia and Mihi my class started this piece of writing and then had a brake by playing golden child. Golden child is a game where one team is shooting and the other team is running a lap of the court, the runners and the shooters have to be in a line and take turns running and shooting. To start the game the coach or in this case Mrs Jujnivich would call out “Start!” or “Go!” That's when the runners will start to run a lap then shooters will start shooting. Once the shooters have got a basket the runner that is running would stop and then the next person would try to run a lap to get home. To win the round the shooters have to shoot a basket while the last runner is running the runner is the golden child has to make it home.  the runner is called golden child

Favourite Things

I had a great day at school because I loved playing golden child with all my friends and finally going somewhere and seeing people. The best thing was that I could get away from my brothers just for a bit.

Descriptive Poem

 30 June 2021

WALT:  Write a descriptive piece of Poetry

What is yellow?  A buttercup flower is yellow.

Sprouting out into the fresh air as it finds its way into the glow of sunshine.

What is red?  Jam is red.

Slop it on your morning toast, sweet and just a little treat to have so your day is better than ever.

What is white?  A marshmallow is white.

Squishy as the squishy teddy you cuddle up with at night, as sweet as a lollipop.

What is blue?  The sky is blue.

Helps our clouds have a home and the bright sun has a home.

What is green?  Kea are green.

Native bird but really cheeky and really camouflage in any sort of bush.

What is pink?  Lipstick is pink.

Wipe it on your lips just to make you look fabulous instead of looking hideous because you're late to work.

Tree Planting

WALT write an in incredible recount

On the 22 of June 2021 my school Paparore, lined up at 9:00am to walk off to lake Ngatu to plant 1600 plants. Each student had to plant at least 10 plants each, to reach the total of 1600 trees that needed to be planted.

When everyone was settled and sitting down after our little stroll to the lake, Cleo and Donnie said Karakia and Mihi then all of us sang some of our school songs. One of the people that talked to us said that over the last 15 years there have been 40,000 plants planted in total.

As soon as Paparore School finished singing our school songs we all got a little demonstration by a lady that looked like she had a lot of experience about planting. After that demonstration off we were to get planting some plants. My Te Pihi partner was a boy called Thomas and my group was Lara, Maddison, Grason, Thomas and me. Our adult helper was Lara’s dad, his name is Robert and he dug all the holes for the student’s to carefully put the baby tree into the hole. If you do not know how to plant a baby plant then next time when you plant follow these steps.

First you have to dig a deep enough hole so you can fit the plant in the hole. Next you have to squeeze the container so the plant can come out and carefully brake the roots and to in the hole and put soil around it and push down with you heal.

My favourite part about planting was being able to do something fun knowing that I am helping the environment. We all cheered the parents as they walked through the tunnel the students made for them to walk through.

Describe A Pet

This piece of writing is describing my bird Joejo.

My pet that I am going to tell you about is a cockatiel (which is just a bird), named Joejo.  Joejo is about 5 years old or 6 years old.  My big brother Isaac got Joejo for Isaac’s 5th birthday so my little brother has known Joejo for his whole life which is pretty special.

His feathers are grey, white, yellow and he has a touch of orange on his cheeks with a tiny pink beak.  Joejo’s beak is awesome for biting the shell off seeds.  Joejo is the best at entertaining because if you whistle a little tune then Joejo would start dancing then interrupt you so he can have a turn singing.  Joejo think’s that his singing is as good as the best popstar in the world. When strangers come over and touch the door handle he thinks its my Dad because my Dad comes home for lunch and dinner from farming or going on the farm so Joejo gets super excited.

This is what I love most about Joejo.  His feathers are as soft as the softest pillow in the world.  We used to be able to pat him but now Joejo gets nervous when we pat his head.  Although Joejo is a little bit of a showoff because sometimes when strangers come he puffs out his wings to show that he is tough and not scared.

Describe A Person

This piece of writing is describing my sister Mikayla.

My older sister, Mikayla is the person in my life who inspires me a lot.  Mikayla has blonde, silky, straight, long hair with tiny streaks of light brown running through it.  Mikayla’s hair is as pretty as Matariki at midnight.  She has light skin all over like my skin, her skin glows as soon as she steps out to the afternoon sun.  Mikayla’s eyes are as beautiful as the prettiest ocean blue with a touch of dark blue too.  When Mikayla smiles she Her smile is as bright as the beautiful shining sun rising and setting.

My favourite memory with Mikayla was when we walked together through the long grass at my old farm or when she walked with me while I was in a tiny red plastic trailer with a handle so she can pull me along the tractors tyre marks while sitting in the trailer.

When Mikayla is angry she puts Ava to sleep and tells Tristan to look after Blake while she has time by herself in her room. Sometimes I help Mikayla with putting Ava to sleep or I just put Ava to sleep with my mum and give Ava cuddles.

Speeches

Here is my speech about why tik tok should be banned. Kio ra my name is Lucy and today I’m going to 100% persuade you with my reasons as to why tik tok should be banned at schools. The first reason why it should be banned is because it has rude music with swear words and rude dancing. I have found that people pretend that it's just having fun and dancing but it can be really inappropriate. You have no control of the next video that pops up, the video could be really inappropriate or quite rude. My friend told me that she said to her mum that she goes on tik tok because it is fun and “Not inappropriate.”She is wrong, like I said before it has rude dancing and rude music that can sometimes have swear words. The next reason why tik tok should be banned is because kids spend waaaaaay too much time on Ipads phones and everything like that. The ages from 4 to 15 now spend approximately 80 minutes per day on tik tok. Also kids that think they're funny can cyber bully people that use tik tok. Tik tok can be a distraction from homework and it means that kids don’t spend almost any time having fun playing with a whole lot of other friends outside. Do you have a bank account or something special like your bank and what you bought online kept online that you can only get into with your email or password? If you go on tik tok and share lots of videos then you probably should be careful because sometimes people can find your email and go into some of your private stuff and wipe out your whole bank and all that money that you saved could be gone forever. Guess what, the TikTok star gets 50,000 dollars from every video she posts because of all her followers, where does she get that money from and it is not fair, it looks like the tik tok star spends all that money on make-up, nice clothes and new hair accessories not even making one dollar of it a charity. Thankyou for listening to my speech about why TikTok should be banned. I hope you enjoyed hearing my speech and I hope I have persuaded you as to why tik tok should be wiped out of this world forever.

Water Fun Day

This is my water fun day writing

Recount of our Water fun day.

This Wednesday the whole school brought togs to have a water fun swim. All of the girls in Te Puawai dashed off with our togs to get changed into our fancy togs. It was hard to get my top part on because I was so excited about the water fun swim, I started skipping along to the slippery black and soapy water slide.

There was a blue tunnel slide that you would shoot down, then you would go flying off the end.  I kept saying to myself, “I am not doing that!” Every time it was someone's turn Sir would say, “Go!!” Then people would go.  Chase was funny because he went down and landed completely lying down, Everybody said, “Ohh.” Next, Chase stuck his thumb up and yelled, “I’m ok!” I had one turn on the slippery black water slide then wandered over to have a dip in the pool. Me and my best friend Kaydee dived all the way to the deep part of the pool trying to dodge everyone in the pool oh and also all of the net-balls and water guns. The water guns were really hard to dodge. Kaydee and I kept on screaming like this, “Aah!” Koda helped us with that too. After the scream we all started giggling. After getting really wet in the pool the two of us raced over to the little playground and tried out that slide. It was almost faster, then the big blue slide. My fourth time on the little slide I flew off the end of the light blue slide. I kept begging and begging for Kaydee to do the same as what I did. I told her that, “It does not hurt when you fly off the end.’’ I don’t think she believed me with that. Kaydee did try to fly off but she kept trying and she never stopped stopping touching the ground. After all that fun I lied down with some of my friends in the sun until we packed up.

Finally the teachers yelled, “Time for your last turn then pack up and get changed!”  So everyone ran off and started getting changed. As all the girls were getting ready to go home and get changed Mihi got her undies on and realised she forgot her pants, Mihi yelled, “Aaah I forgot my shorts!!”  Luckily a really nice friend Koda ran off when she finished getting changed and scooped up Mihi’s pants and raced them off to her. After all that I hopped on the bus with my friends and finished my day cuddling up and reading to my family.

Reflection

I really enjoyed it when me and Mihi jumped around in the pool dodging everyone. I loved playing with my friends in the sprinklers. Next time I will go on the blue tunnel slide.

Tsunami Warning

Here is my writing about the Tsunami warning.
⇘⇙

8 March 2021

WALT:  Write a narrative

Tsunami Warning Friday 5/03/21

Last Friday Paparore School had a Tsunami warning. As soon as everybody in the class heard the alarm we were wondering what the alarm was for. As soon as Mrs Jujnovich said that everyone in the school  had to get our bags and to go to the hall, everyone was worried and really confused.

As all of us headed off for Maunga Ngatu, that was when I realised that It was a Tsunami Warning. When the school crossed the road I could hear people saying ‘climbing the fence is tricky’ then me and my friend could hear “aww that really hurts when I stand on gause.” Our first stop was just under higher ground, we all had a little snack and a drink of water there and some students got picked-up by their Mum or Dad.

The next place we went to was our highest ground, that was when me, Mihi, Grace and Kaydee did each other's hair. When Mihi was doing Kaydee’s hair me and Grace did Rapunzel dolls hair, we kept trying to make the dolls' hair nice. Grace had to have a hair tie to do Rapunzel's hair so I gave her my spare hair tie. After doing Rapunzel's hair me, my friends and Mrs. Jujnovich played a game of I spy with my little eye. I would say that everyone got one point each, I think Mrs. Jujnovich got the most points though.

After all that Sir arrived and we went downhill so he could put up the gazebo for some shade. They also brought up the barbecue so we could have a yummy treat.  As the sausages were cooking I smelt and heard them sizzling on the barbecue, and us all singing waiata together. After the waiata we all had a yummy barbecue.

Then we had a hikoi back to school. On the way back most of us got to meet Stig, Mihi’s doggy. When we got to school I packed up my stuff and went home.

WHAT A DAY!!!
